Getting around

Getting around from Carmei Gat

Trains from Kiryat Gat station, the city buses that link Carmei Gat to the train, buses to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the Rav-Kav desk and Route 6.

Carmei Gat was planned around the car, but the railway station and the city buses are close. Timetables change, so check Moovit or the operator before you travel. Stops and lines are on the getting around page.

Trains

Kiryat Gat station is in the industrial zone in the east of the city. It is open 24 hours a day except Saturdays (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). On Sunday 4 Oct 2026, 27 trains each way stopped there, from about 05:15 to about 23:15. Northbound trains run to Tel Aviv and beyond, and southbound trains to Lehavim-Rahat and Be'er Sheva (Open Bus Stride (opens in a new tab)). The community site says early-morning trains also stop at the airport (community site (opens in a new tab)).

City buses

Dan BaDarom lines 1, 3, 4 and 5 run between the Carmei Gat bus terminal in the north of the neighbourhood and the railway station (Open Bus Stride (opens in a new tab)).

Intercity buses

  • Sha'ar HaIr terminal, at the western entrance to Carmei Gat: on Wednesday 7 Oct 2026, Kavim 132 to Beitar Illit (9 trips) and Galim 230 to Netivot railway station (11 trips) started here (Open Bus Stride (opens in a new tab)).
  • Jerusalem: there is no train. Egged 449 and 460 run from Kikar HaMa'apil to Jerusalem central bus station (Open Bus Stride (opens in a new tab), Sunday 4 Oct 2026).
  • Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheva: Metropoline 369 stops in Kiryat Gat about 31 times each way a day. Dan BaDarom 250 and 252 go to Ashkelon (same GTFS data).

Rav-Kav

The Rav-Kav service centre is at Kiryat Gat central bus station, opposite the Be'er Sheva stop. It opens Sun, Tue and Thu from 08:00 and Mon and Wed from 10:00, and one Friday a month (gov.il (opens in a new tab)).

Shabbat and holidays

Trains don't run on Saturdays (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Check Moovit or the bus operator for Friday-afternoon and Saturday-night times before you plan a trip, and you can check this week's Shabbat times for Carmei Gat (opens in a new tab) on Hebcal.

Taxis

I couldn't find an official list of taxi stands, or a Kiryat Gat taxi company with its own website. The community site mentions a taxi stand on the plaza behind the Lev HaIr mall (community site (opens in a new tab)). Nefesh B'Nefesh says shared sherut taxis are widely used inside the city (NBN (opens in a new tab)).
