Your first week in Carmei Gat

Who to call and where to go in your first week in Carmei Gat: the 106 hotline, the absorption offices, Misrad HaPnim, Bituach Leumi, arnona, the post office and the numbers to save.

3 min readChecked 5 October 2026

Carmei Gat is a neighbourhood of Kiryat Gat, not a separate town. It was founded in 2017 on the city's northern side, and in mid 2026 the community site counted about 300 English-speaking families, alongside French, Spanish and Hebrew speakers (community site (opens in a new tab)). Everything official (arnona, schools, the hotline, permits) goes through the Kiryat Gat municipality, whose site is spelled with a q: qiryat-gat.muni.il (opens in a new tab). Everything below links to where I checked it.

What Carmei Gat does not have (yet)

As of mid 2026 the neighbourhood has no post office, library, bank, train station or government branch offices. You will do those errands in the older part of Kiryat Gat, a short drive or bus ride south (community site (opens in a new tab)). Most of them cluster around the Lev HaIr mall on Sderot Lachish and HaGefen St, so one morning can cover several.

Save the municipal hotline: 106

Dial 106 from any phone, including mobiles, or 08-6878370. It runs 24/7 all year except Yom Kippur, and also answers on WhatsApp and in the MAST app (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Use it for street lights, rubbish, water leaks and general questions. See the listing.

For neighbourhood works (roads, roundabouts, lighting, gardens) there is a separate Carmei Gat Directorate on 08-6812096 (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

The absorption offices

There are three, and they do different things:

  • Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, Kiryat Gat branch, 3 HaGefen St, 03-9733333. Open Sun 08:30-13:30, Wed 08:30-13:30 and 15:00-18:00, Thu 08:30-13:30. Teudat oleh, ulpan referral, income support, grants (including for lone soldiers) and a social worker (gov.il (opens in a new tab)). Listing.
  • The municipal absorption department, 2nd floor of Lev HaIr Mall opposite McDonald's, 08-6874572. Help with housing, work, education, health and bureaucracy, and it runs Hebrew ulpanim (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Its web page sits in the Russian-speaking section, which is easy to miss. Listing.
  • The New Residents Directorate, 97 HaKomemiyut St, 08-6257480, for every new resident, oleh or not (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

Nefesh B'Nefesh lists Carmei Gat as an "emerging community", names two municipal absorption staff as Anglo oleh coordinators and points newcomers to the community site and its Facebook groups (NBN (opens in a new tab)). The community site also has a "Speak to a local" option.

Misrad HaPnim and Bituach Leumi

The Population Authority office is on the 3rd floor of Lev HaIr Mall (23 Lachish Blvd), phone *3450, by appointment through govisit.gov.il. Bring your teudat zehut: a driving licence is not accepted (gov.il (opens in a new tab)). The municipality's own page says the office is temporarily closed for renovation and gives no date, so check before you go (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

Bituach Leumi is at 64 HaAtzmaut Blvd: reception Sun, Tue and Thu 08:30-13:00 by appointment, phone *6050 (Bituach Leumi (opens in a new tab)).

Arnona, post and printing

  • Arnona is handled by the Municipal Payments Centre, 70 HaRimon St, appointments only, 1599-50-55-56. You can get bills by email through the MAST site (municipality (opens in a new tab)).
  • The main post office is at 7 HaGefen St (branch 240), appointment required (Israel Post (opens in a new tab)).
  • Government self-service kiosks for printing documents are in Super-Pharm at Lev HaIr, at Big Kiryat Gat and at 153 Lachish Blvd, which is Big Carmei Gat (gov.il (opens in a new tab)).

Shelters and emergency numbers

The municipal shelter list shows public miguniot in Carmei Gat at the Sportek (two, by the courts and running track) and in the park behind Cramim school (by the basketball court). It lists no underground public shelters in the neighbourhood. The same page quotes Home Front Command policy: if your home has no mamad, stay in an inner room during an alert rather than run outside to a migunit (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

The municipality's essential numbers: police 100, MDA 101, fire 102, ERAN emotional first aid 1201, and NATAL 1-800-3633631 (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Its emergency page also links neighbourhood WhatsApp groups and the Home Front Command app (municipality (opens in a new tab)). See all of them in urgent care and emergency.

Getting involved

The Carmei Gat matnas (4 Nofech St, 08-6252296) runs chugim, workshops, community events and holiday camps; registration goes through matnaskg.org.il (matnas (opens in a new tab)). Youth movements meet mostly on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Carmei Gat has its own Bnei Akiva, Tzofim and Maccabi Tzair branches (municipality (opens in a new tab)). The free Sportek has basketball, soccer, a skate park and volleyball (community site (opens in a new tab)).
